Moment of prayer
Night prayer
Resting the day in God's hands.
First prayer
Be still
The day is over. Take a deep breath and let your body rest right where you are.
Hear the Word
In peace I will both lay myself down and sleep, for you alone, Yahweh, make me live in safety.
David slept in peace not because everything was solved, but because God kept him. You can rest too.
Ask
Lord, thank you for what was good today. Forgive where I went wrong and watch over the people I love tonight.
Yield
I lie down in peace. You alone make me dwell in safety. Amen.
Second prayer
Be still
Be quiet and go back over the day before God, without hurry and without condemning yourself.
Hear the Word
Search me, God, and know my heart. Try me, and know my thoughts. See if there is any wicked way in me, and lead me in the everlasting way.
Asking God to search us is letting Him shine His love on our day. What stayed in your heart today?
Ask
Search me, O God. Show me where I drifted from you, and where you were with me without my noticing.
Yield
Lead me in the everlasting way — tomorrow too. I rest in your care. Amen.
Third prayer
Be still
Switch off on the inside too: the conversations, the screens, the lists. Be still before God.
Hear the Word
Into your hand I commend my spirit. You redeem me, Yahweh, God of truth.
These words from the psalm were Jesus' last on the cross: complete surrender into the Father's hands. Tonight, they can be yours.
Ask
Father, take the worries I would carry to bed. Take care of what I can't resolve.
Yield
Into your hands I commit my spirit. Amen.
